REIMAGINING WELLNESS THROUGH A HAÍⱢZAQV LENS

The idea for Kunsoot Wellness Centre arose from an inter-agency dialogue session in July 2018. A need was identified for a safe and comfortable space to run healing and wellness programs out in the land, accessible year-round at for all mobility levels, and available to all the agencies in Bella Bella who run or aspire to run land-based programs. In response, Qqs (Eyes) Projects Society was tasked with raising the $2M needed to the initial construction phase.

VISION FOR KUNSOOT WELLNESS CENTRE MOVING FORWARD

With support from Heiltsuk Tribal Council and the Hemas Council, we are creating a new society - the Kunsoot Wellness Society - to oversee the developing vision for our project, and management and programming at the facility once it's complete. We envision family camps, workshops and retreats, training programs, field trips, land-based learning and healing work, a safe house, residential space for people who need a retreat - the vision continues to grow!

Heiltsuk Wellness: A Shared Vision, 1994 (Waterfall et. al.)

The Heiltsuk view the strengths of their community in a way which is similar to how they see being healthy. For example, people believe that the Heiltsuk culture and traditions are a source of strength for the community. Culture and traditions are also seen as important parts of health. Thus, there is a similarity here in how people view health and the strengths of the community.
